Obscure, yet relevant niigata

Been a minute, but I've been on vacation, so, you know. Anyways! It's summer and all across Japan, cities are holding annual festivals and Niigata is no different. In fact, one of the nation's most celebrated fireworks events is held in the city of Nagaoka, which is said to draw in over a million people for the viewing. Interesting. If the event is so significant to locals, what must it mean to those far outside of Niigata's orbit? With that in mind, I stumbled across the tale of one Tokyoite who made his way all the way across the country just to experience the majesty of these nighttime sky flowers (NOTE: you may need Google Translate for this one).

Happy Summer, everyone!
